In November, 1721 , D'Bienville was informed by M. Renard, of Natchitoches, that Marquis Aguayo, governor of the province of Lastikas , had arrived at the Adayes with thirty thousand dollars in gold, four hundred horsemen, and all the necessary materials to build a strong fort at that point.

The area around present-day Robeline was the scene of much activity during the early settlement of Louisiana. Europeans first observed the Adai Indians, a Caddo tribe, living near Robeline. Spanish Settlers from the Canary Islands came here as early as 1694 to 1711 and estalished missions among the Adai.
